BC Card will carry out in-Korea acquisition service for 'DFS’ exclusively

BC Card (CEO Lee Moon-hwan) announced on November 26 that they signed a partnership agreement with Discover Financial Service(DFS), a U.S.-based bank and international payment network service provider, and will carry out the acquisition of credit cards affiliated with Discover Global Network in Korea, exclusively.

Discover Global Network is in a form of united payment network operated by DFS, which includes Discovery Network, Diners Club International, Pulse, and partners from more than 15 countries including South Korea, China, Japan, India, Brazil and Turkey. Services are provided through more than 44 million merchants and 2 million ATMs worldwide.

Lee Moon-hwan CEO of BC Card, Joe Hurley a Vice President of DFS and other key officials attended the signing ceremony at DFS's headquarters in Riverwood, Illinois, U.S.A on Nov. 25th (local time). After the signing ceremony, a meeting was also arranged to discuss detailed future cooperation and direction of partnership.

Through the partnership, BC Card will exclusively provide in-Korea payment and acquisition services for Discover and Diners Club credit cards issued overseas from next year, and will build a new infrastructure to do so.

Also BC Card will be the first Korean credit card company to perform the acquisition service for all international brand credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, UnionPay and JCB, and expects that customer convenience will greatly increase by the partnership.

"We are excited to become able to provide payment services for all international brand credit cards to BC Card's core customers through our partnership with DFS," BC Card CEO Lee Moon-hwan said. "We will make efforts to achieve the vision of Asia's No. 1 payment platform company by making the most of BC Card's 3 million member networks, processing and digital capabilities."

Meanwhile, BC Card launched 'BC Global Card' in 2011 which doesn't charge any international brand fee through a payment network partnership agreement signed with DFS in 2010. As of November 2019, a total of 13 issuers have recorded the accumulated number of issuing BC Global Card amounts to 13 million.
