Title BC Pay, First to Introduce Innovative NFC Mobile Payment Date 2015.11.16

BC Card cardholders will be introduced to diverse mobile touch payment technologies. BC Card (President and CEO, Joon Hee Suh, www.bccard.com) has announced that it will be launching two types of innovative NFC-based mobile payment services through ‘BC Pay’ on November 11th.

BC Pay’s first innovation is the already-existing mISP (mobile ISP) app, which enabled customers to pay for mobile shopping. This app will now be available for use in offline merchants. Number of cards registered on mISP app is 9 million; these customers can now simply press ‘Pay Offline’ on their app to pay for their goods in offline merchants (merchants with NFC dongles). BC Card expects this potential customer group and more to be a promising factor in the growth of offline mobile payment.

Since BC Card is using Korean-standard technology, companies will not be burdened with fees or loyalty levied by global brand networks that put a price tag on their technology and standards. Also by using HCE which stores card data on Cloud, it does not need any storing device (for example, USIM), ensuring safer mobile payment.

BC Pay is also different from other mobile payments which can only be used on latest high-tech smartphones. As long as you have a smartphone with an Android OS 4.4 or higher, you can use mISP to pay with BC Pay.

Another innovation brought by BC Pay is the realization of smart watch payment. BC Card is the first company to implement eSE technology, which stores card data in a specific space in the smart watch. Once a customer registers a card on a smartphone, this data is automatically shared with the Samsung smart watch ‘Gear S2’ which is connected to the smartphone. From then on, customers can simply use their watch to pay for goods and this does not require additional authentication or turning on mobile apps, making the payment all the more convenient and easy to use.
Along with BC Card’s USIM mobile payment technology which was introduced to the market in 2012, BC Card’s launch of BC Pay has allowed BC Card to become the only card company in Korea to have a full line-up of mobile payment services.

Currently cardholders can use ‘BC Pay’ in more than 50 thousand merchants nationwide, including Gongcha, Paris Baguette, Baskin Robbins, Dunkin Donuts, Pascucci (café/bakery), CU, GS25 (convenience store), Emart, Lottemart, Homeplus, Nonghyup Hanaro Mart (supermarket), Hyundai department store, AK Plaza, Doota, EnterSix (shopping) and more.

BC Pay is also holding a launching event with Gongcha. The offers are as follows: ▲ Free Black Milk Tea coupon for the first 50,000 customers who register ‘BC Pay’ for the first time ▲ Free drink for customers who use ‘BC Pay’ in Gongcha stores on Nov 26th, Dec 3rd ▲ 30% cash back for customers who use ‘BC Pay’ during the promotion period (maximum 10K won)

Head of BC Card’s Convergence Business Division, Jung Hoon Choi stated, "BC Card will expand safe and convenient mobile payment services to other mobile apps and wearable devices, and continue to lead the fin-tech industry. BC Card plans to combine HCE technology with KT’s smart wallet (CLiP) and provide diverse offline merchant marketing services, converging NFC mobile payment, membership and coupons."
