Title BC Card Donates “Red Cart” to Migrant Workers Date 2007.12.06
BC Card held a ceremony to donate a red food cart for foreign migrant workers in Korea, in the Guro District in southern Seoul on December 6. BC Card President Chung Byung-Tae volunteered at the ceremony to work as a chef serving lunch to the workers from the back of the cart. The lunch was served to a total of 150 workers by a team of volunteers consisting mostly of BC Card employees. In addition to mostly Korean dishes, the volunteer team had also prepared several ethnic foods for the foreign workers to enjoy.

Other volunteers were also present on the day, including Kah Jae-Hwan (President of the Community Chest of Korea), Kim Hae-Sung (President of the Love Sharing Global Village, Yang Dae-Woong
(Guro District Chief), and Kim Tae-Hee (fashion model and actress). Before serving lunch, President Chung donated 10 million won to the President of the Love Sharing Global Village for installing heaters in the community center.

The “red food cart” is a specially equipped vehicle capable of serving up to 300 people after one hour of preparation, with all the kitchen facilities including hot and cold tap water, cooking devices,
plates and bowls, and utensils. BC Card has ordered two such vehicles every year since 2005 to donate to social welfare organizations throughout the country.

This year, the company has donated vehicles costing approximately 130 million won each to an old people’s home in Kwangju, as well as to the Global Village Love Sharing.

The latter organization and its volunteers, providing shelter, free medical care, and childcare services to foreign migrant workers in Korea, are delighted to have the vehicle, which they can use to serve
more workers and their family members with warm, nutritious meals.
