Title BC Card Text Message Alert Service Members Surpass 10 Million Date 2008.05.27
BC Card will strengthen its partnership with China UnionPay in many different areas. On May 28, BC Card President BC Card’s mobile text message (or SMS) service now boasts more than 10 million subscribers. BC Card celebrated the occasion of breaking through the 10 million mark with a ceremony honoring the 10 millionth subscriber, the company said on May 27.

The lucky winner turned out to be a young man called Lee Jong-Lim, a resident of south Seoul. He was invited to the BC Card headquarters and given free travel certificates worth up to 3 million won
with the additional privilege of enjoying a lifetime’s free text message service. On top of this, the company awarded a total of 36 winners either side of the 10 millionth subscriber with gift cards and other benefits.

To commemorate the occasion, BC Card also held an event ending June 30 to select six winners from a total of 21,156 customers entering a sweepstake through its website and give them up to 2
million won’s worth of free travel tickets (one first-prize winner), and BC Gift Cards worth up to 500,000 won (five second-prize winners).

The company attributed the success of its text messaging service, which has been in use since 2001, to the following two factors: the first is that it had been a great tool to thwart fraudulent credit card
use by alerting users that their card was being charged. The second was the fact that the charge for the text message service gets billed just once, although the user holds different BC Cards.

The monthly charge for the BC Card text message service is 300 won (25 U.S. cents) and this remains the same regardless of how many cards the user holds from different BC Card member banks.
