Title BC Card Introduces Nation’s First Card to Pay for Replacement Driving Date 2008.11.04
On November 5, BC Card announced that it would introduce Korea’s first debit card - called ZIBRO (literally meaning “To your home” in Korean) - to pay for a replacement driving service. The user, in many cases a motorist unable to drive home at night after drinking, can recharge it with a pre-set amount any time they need.

■ Just Charge It with ZIBRO

With the ZIBRO card, the user no longer has to withdraw cash or look for a phone number for a replacement driving service. To take advantage of this convenient service, you only need to call the number on the back of the card. The call center operator will debit the service charge from the user’s card number. Instead of having to give the number over the phone, the card can be given to the driver at the end of the ride.

■ Many Different Amounts and Unlimited Recharge

Two types of ZIBRO card are issued: unnamed cards (20, 30, 50, 100, 300, 500 thousand won) and named cards (100, 300, and 500 thousand won). Named ZIBRO cards are issued with the buyer’s name imprinted on them.

The card can be purchased at any BC Card office and from the BC Card website (shopping.bccard.com). In future, the card will be sold at affiliated convenience stores and gas stations and credit balances on the cards can be spent in these establishments.

■ The Charge May Be Tax Deductible

The amount the user charges against a named ZIBRO card may be tax deductible at the year end. In addition to tax benefits, a named card offers the following four exclusive services:

- Automatic Recharge: If the balance falls below the pre-set amount, the card recharges itself up to the face-value amount of the card.

- One-Call Service: Once the user has asked for the driver service, the information saved on the card is transmitted to the call center, and the service charge debited automatically.

- Reservation Service: Priority reservation is made for the time and location the user wants.

- Automatic Casualty Insurance Offered: For every ride, casualty insurance is offered automatically.

Those users who take out unnamed cards can switch to the named variety at any time and thereby take advantage of potential tax deduction benefits. Switching is as easy as visiting one of the BC Card offices or logging into the BC Card website. Once the switch is made, the user can receive all the benefits that named ZIBRO cardholders enjoy, apart from the Automatic Recharge service.

■ Easy to Treat as a Corporate Expense

Whilst it is difficult to provide proof of the transaction for existing replacement driving services, and they are thus rarely treated as corporate expenses, the ZIBRO card allows the user to print out detailed transaction statements on the BC Card website.

■ Casualty Insurance Covers Losses up to 100 Million Won

Any named cardholder using the ZIBRO card (including those switching from the unnamed type) can be covered for casualty insurance for free. But unnamed cardholders can also apply for the benefit with a call to the call center. The insurance provided by ZIBRO covers the user every time they charge the amount through the card and remains in force up to 24 hours after charging.

Kim Gyu-Hyung, Senior Manager for merchandising at BC Card, said, “The ZIBRO card will provide a high-quality service for those in need of chauffeurs for their own car by contracting with reliable service companies.”
